Gare de Creusot, France's Underground Station

The Gare du Creusot TGV Station is an impressive railway station located on the LGV Sud Est, offering TGV high-speed rail service to the beautiful town of Le Creusot, situated in France's Provence region. Opened in October 1981, this station is situated in the northern part of the town and is only accessible by road from the railway station.

A quick look around the Gare du Creusot reveals the typical features of this railway station; however, more attention needs to be paid to the underground car park. Built within a tunnel that runs under the railway line, the underground car park provides customers with extra facilities, such as a wheelchair accessible entrance and a fully air-conditioned car.

The underground car park is separated from the train area by a high concrete wall and has a number of small cubicles. When using the car, a person should make sure that he or she is close enough to get into the cubicle without having to bend down or stand up. If a person has to stand up and walk to the entrance, it may take a long time to enter the cubicle.

The underground car park is not suitable for persons who do not have an allocated seat, as the seating area is limited to three seats at any one time. This does not necessarily affect passengers that are sitting near a train, as trains can often be crowded at the Gare du Creusot station. However, those who are sitting near a train do not want to have to wait for long periods of time before they can move to another seat.

Although most people travelling by the TGV to Le Creusot travel within a metropolitan area, there are also some journeys to this town made by the regional train, the Le Grand Est. This train is also provided with an underground car park.

The railway has been in operation since 1924. The first train that was supplied with the facility was the Merville-Lorme Express which had a capacity of two carriages. These days the train is equipped with three carriage cars and a lounge. There are even more modern coaches available for use by travellers travelling by the TGV to Le Creusot.

The Gare du Creusot is not a very busy railway station and therefore, there is a low-volume of traffic passing through the station. However, a train passing through the station at the moment is the Le Grand Est, which has just returned from a short break. As the train leaves the station at the end of each service, there is a large crowd of passengers waiting to catch the train. At this point, the crowd begins to disperse, leaving a group of people waiting to catch the next train on the platform.

These people begin to look for a place where they can sit and wait. It takes several minutes for a train to arrive, so the waiting crowd starts to thin. until eventually the passengers are left on the platform with nowhere to go.
