History of Saint Vlbas

Saint Vlbas, or Saint Petersburg, is a Russian city situated in the Russian Federation. A very popular tourist destination, it has also been the home of many famous Russian figures such as Peter the Great and Catherine the Great. The city is situated near Kirovsk where there is a river that flows through the city.

Peter the Great was born in the city of Volokolamsk (present day Kirovsk) in the province of Komiya on the banks of the Dnieper River. His father was an ethnic Ukrainian by the name of Igor Vasilyevich who served as the provincial governor in the region. During his early years, Peter was tutored at home by his mother, Natalia. However, he was not given the title of the Tsar until he reached adulthood when his mother died.

Peter's childhood was marked with hardships as well. He was forced to work in the mines for a number of months and eventually escaped to Russia. From here, he worked as an engineer. During his early years in Russia, Peter married Catherine the Great's mother and had a son named Peter the Great. Though she became a Christian and left him for her own life, Peter stayed loyal to her until his death.

Catherine's reign was marked with increasing tensions with the Greeks and the Russians were involved in numerous wars against them. Peter also had a falling out with his cousin Mikhail, who was jealous of his status as the Tsar's brother-in-law. Thus, he secretly plotted against Peter's position and later on he even plotted against his own brother. Mikhail died in the arms of Peter's wife during a battle, which was won by the Russian Army and Peter's death.

After Catherine's death, her younger son, Prince Alexander, took over the throne. He did not care too much about the history of his mother's family and she was also not around during his reign. Though her remains are now preserved in St Petersburg, no one is sure who buried them. Some say that she was buried at the tomb of her maternal aunt, Princess Anna of Finland, but others claim that she was buried in her father's ancestral home. Regardless of her exact burial place, Alexander was married to a Georgian woman named Maria Feodorovilina and they had a daughter named Alexandra.
